Unlock your creativity

Michael teaches at Art Junction — in the studio, online and one-to-one — for complete beginners and experienced artists alike. Topics include drawing with charcoal, fabricating steel and casting in bronze.

In Michael's words

Being a tutor is not about me or my work. It's about bringing the best out of other people — helping them to progress, helping them to achieve.

Michael's teaching looks beyond the representational, into the imaginative recesses of the creative mind. He encourages the brave steps and artistic risks that unlock creativity, and the confidence to take on fresh subjects: sounds, feelings, emotions or actions.

Equally at home drawing, painting or sculpting, he moves freely between 2D and 3D. Whatever your level, he will look at and discuss your work in a respectful, helpful and constructively critical way.

What students say

Michael comes from a completely different viewpoint — questioning can be challenging at first, but Michael always has an answer and you come away with a much broader perspective on what is possible.
Art Junction student
Michael seems to work a bit like a grasshopper! He has the unusual ability to move from 2D to 3D, from drawing to a pair of scissors, from cardboard cut-out to bronze sculpture. It's a bit like having Picasso on Blue Peter.
Art Junction student
Michael gives a contemporary expression to the ideals of Paul Nash, Eric Ravilious and other British artists in the early 20th century who produced designs and illustrations commercially alongside their output of fine art.
